Unit initiative Description: 
Each Center matches the faculty strengths with a regional industrial cluster and organizes the collaborations. Market these Centers for national visibility and attract top talent to the region. The College will raise funds from the industrial clusters to establish the Centers. The funds can be in the form of basic membership fees, endowed professorships, research assistantships, or funds for projects.
Time Frame: 
3 years
Desired outcomes: 
A number of Portland Innovation Centers established in MCECS. Each of them has industrial companies as its members.
How initiative supports overall unit or school/college plans: 
It gains and focuses resource on strengths and growth. It greatly increases our national competitiveness and standing.
Measure of progress and success for this unit initiative: 
The number of Center we are able to establish.

A comprehensive and equitable measure of faculty workload that encompassing research, teaching, and service.

The initiative is necessary to support the College goal of research expansion.
Measure of progress and success for this unit initiative: 
A new measure faculty workload is developed and implemented across the College. More effective use of faculty time and other resources.

Unit initiative Description: 
Establish a research center to advance the concept of regional sustainability by conducting system-level projects through partnerships between universities researchers, policy makers, regulatory agencies, businesses, and communities. Make the State of Oregon a world leader in regional sustainability.
Time Frame: 
More than 3 years/ongoing
Desired outcomes: 
A multi-disciplinary research center for studying regional sustainability with collaborations with many public and private institutions in the region. Entering the national competitions for federal funding, e.g. NSF Engineering Research Center.
How initiative supports overall unit or school/college plans: 
It is central to the College's goals in research expansion, curriculum reform, and attracting top talent to the College.
Measure of progress and success for this unit initiative: 
The increased competitiveness in sustainability research as measured by the increased research grants and productivity.

Unit initiative Description: 
The College will develop an overall plan in support of the educational needs of the industry in the Portland region. The plan will integrate the existing educational activities and supports the future growth. We plan to use a mix of in-class and on-line delivery methods for this goal.
Time Frame: 
1 year
Desired outcomes: 
A plan that is developed and implemented.
How initiative supports overall unit or school/college plans: 
It supports the College goal of becoming a major partner with the regional industry.
Measure of progress and success for this unit initiative: 
The success of the plan will be measured by the number of employees in the industrial companies enrolled in our educational program and the quality of education they receive.
